About Me

Hey, I am a B.E. ( Bachelor of Engineering ) Computer Science student at MIT, Manipal (PS: not the Massachusetts one). I am a self proclaimed geek highly interested in web development. I am fondly called Mandy by my friends.I am a tall guy with a height of 5′11”. I was born on 29th May, 1990 in the town of Visakhapatnam. Though I was born in Andhra Pradesh, I did my schooling in Delhi. Infact, I am more fluent in Hindi rather than my mother tongue, Telugu. I did my schooling at Vishwa Bharati Public School, Noida.

  • Working at Shareaholic

  • Worked as a Research Intern on WebinOS(webinos.org) project which aims to create a Secure Web OS Application Delivery Environment at National Technical University of Athens, Greece from Jan 2012 to Feb 2012. It is an European Union project with 14 million euros funding and has partners like Samsung, BMW, Oxofrd University etc.

  • Worked as an Intern at Cisco Systems in the Ethernet Switching Technology Group on the Metrics Dashboard from June 2011 to July 2012. This project was later adopted by ESTG Team at San Jose. I was awarded the Cisco Star award for exceptional work.

  • Worked as a Tech Lead at Let Me Know(part-time) from August 2010 to May 2011 overseeing the entire technical work (website, advertisement portal, training of interns).

  • Worked as an Intern at Pictualize from May 2010 to August 2010 on the development of a Facebook Application to augment GRE preparation.

  • Worked as an Intern at Let Me Know from June 2010 to July 2010 on the addition of features to its website using Zend framework.

  • Worked as an Intern at Dulcet Solutions in December 2009 on the development of a crowd sourcing framework using Drupal CMS.

Projects: 

  • Worked on a project titled Theft Detection of Computers using MAC address by Map-Reduce Technique on a Cluster which aims to find stolen devices by searching its MAC address in network logs at ISP level. This is currently being implemented at Manipal University and a paper on the same has been written and accepted at International Conference on Information and Education Technology, ICIET 2012

  • Setup a Hadoop and HaLoop cluster at High Performance Computing Lab, MIT Manipal and did a comparative analysis on the same.

  • Developed a Facebook application StockAdda, the only virtual stock market having both NSE and NASDAQ. It received publicity in newspapers and online tech journals.

  • Developed a Facebook Application “AutoBudder” which automatically wishes one’s friends on Facebook. It has received wide media presence including articles in national newspapers and online journals. It won the prestigious ACM Bangalore Challenge of Code 2010 which carried a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and was listed in the Top 50 Student Startups by NEN.

  • Developed a registration software for registration of delegates of Techtatva, 2010. The software was coded in PHP using the concepts of OOPS ( https://github.com/kar2905/regwiz)

  • Developed numerous websites : Techtatva, TEDxManipal, Editorial Board, Formula Manipal and my personal website (http://www.mkartik.net).

  • Developed two open source modules for Drupal CMS :   

    • Email Node : It allows the admin to send any node content to selected users through email.

    • User Tax : It allows the administrator to associate taxonomy terms with users.   

  • Worked on a Philips Base of Pyramid project 5 in 1 Lamp which aims to develop a Lamp having the following five features: General Illumintation, Reading Lamp, Night Lamp, Mosquito Repellent and Emergency Lamp.

  • Made a mobile application MOBIDOC using Python for Symbian60 phones which takes the symptoms from the user as input and outputs the remedy. 

Paper Presentation:

  • Presented a paper on Handling failures in Hadoop - Distributed Computing on Large Data Sets at Blueprint in Engineer 2010, technical symposium of NITK, Surathkal.

  • Presented a paper on Wireless Voice Communication over ZigBee Network for T-Asha at the National Conference on Low Power Embedded Systems in February 2009, Bangalore.

Co-Curricular:

  • Conducted workshop on Developing Facebook Applications as part of Microsoft’s Dream Spark Yatra

  • Category Head of Web Development and organised Jour, a 24 hour application development competition in Techtatva’10, National Level Technical Fest of MIT, Manipal.

  • All India Rank 14th in All India Erose Open Scholarship Exam conducted by Erose Educational Infotech, New Delhi in the year 2004-2005. The Exam tested basic logical and analytical skills.

  • Member of Coordination Committee of IEEE Student Branch Manipal in the year 2009.

Extra Curricular

  • Fellow at Kairos Global Fellowship 2012. Kairos brings together top students from around the world in an effort to foster the next generation of leaders to develop globally impactful innovations.

  • Completed a certificate course in German Language from MIT, Manipal in the year 2010.

  • Actively involved in Manipal Voluntary Service Organisation. VSO has voluntary activities ranging from Blood Donation Camps to visits to Orphanages.

  • Member of Editorial Board, 2009 - 2010 of MIT, Manipal. The Editorial Board is responsible for bringing out the annual yearbook of MIT, Manipal along with organizing literary events.
